“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds. Renew them in our day, in our time, make them known.”

– Habakkuk 3:2

Nineteen years ago, City on a Hill began with a handful of people gathered in a small apartment, praying that God might use ordinary people to make Jesus known in Melbourne. We had no grand strategy, no impressive resources, and certainly no expectation that one day we’d be meeting in one of the city’s most iconic buildings. But God loves to do immeasurably more than we could ever think or imagine.

On the 20th of September, we’ll open a new chapter in the life of our church as our morning gatherings move to Melbourne Town Hall.

As we prepare to make this move, the LORD is preparing us for what might just be our biggest step of faith.

The move to Melbourne Town Hall not only solves our present venue limitations, but opens the door to strengthen community, reach thousands more with the gospel and lift up the name of Jesus in the heart of our city.

This is more than a change of venue. It’s a kingdom moment. It’s about lives changed. Hearts awakened. A city reached. The name of Jesus lifted high and above all else.

That’s why, over these final weeks, we’re going to prepare – not just practically, but spiritually.

Each Sunday, we’ll pray together, hear stories of God’s faithfulness, celebrate this new season, share important updates as we prepare for the move, and challenge one another to take our next step in faith.

Please don’t sit on the sidelines. This is a moment for all of us to be all in.

As you read through this website, I encourage you to prayerfully consider how God is calling you to be part of this next chapter.

Pray boldly for our church, our city, and the people in your life who don’t yet know Jesus.

Roll up your sleeves and serve.

Invite a neighbour, friend or colleague to come with you.

Come ready to worship with all your heart, to welcome every guest with genuine warmth, and to help build the kind of church where people encounter the love, grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

God has graciously opened this door before us.

Now is the time to step through with humble hearts, bold faith, and an unwavering commitment to know Jesus and make Jesus known.

In Christ,

Rev. Guy Mason

As we prepare for this next chapter, we’re inviting every member of our church family to join us in a few simple rhythms of prayer.

1:1:1 Prayer

Every day at 1pm, set aside one minute to pray for one person who doesn’t yet know Jesus. Ask God to reveal himself, fill them with his Spirit, and bring them to saving faith.

Need Prayer

Step out in faith and offer prayer on the streets of Melbourne. Through our Need Prayer ministry, we have the privilege of shining the light of Jesus into our city and pointing people to Jesus.

Prayer Meetings

In the weeks leading up to our first Sunday at Melbourne Town Hall, we’ll gather as a church to seek the Lord together in prayer and ask him to move powerfully in and through our church.

We’re excited to welcome your family to Melbourne Town Hall.
Here’s what Sundays will look like for your kids and youth.

City Kids

A full City Kids program will run throughout the service. Families can check their kids in from 9.45am, with all City Kids rooms located on the same level as the main auditorium.

City Youth

Junior Crew (Grades 5-8)

JNR Crew youths will join their families for the start of the service before gathering with their leaders at the back of the auditorium during the meet-and-greet. Parents can collect their child at the end of the service.

Senior High (Grades 7-12)

Our Sunday afternoon SNR High youth program will meet from 3.30–5.00pm at City on a Hill HQ (10 Ievers Terrace, Carlton), before heading to the 5.30pm service afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What excites us most about this step?
Melbourne Town Hall stands as one of the most iconic venues in our city. Right in the heart of Melbourne, with its generous space and rich history, it offers a remarkable opportunity to gather, build community, and lift high the name of Jesus. It’s been a great venue for previous special services, and we are excited to gather in the main hall weekly. We’re deeply thankful — for a place to meet, for room to grow, and for the chance to step out in faith and shine the light of Christ in a new and significant way.
Did we consider other venue options?
Yes. Over the past year, we undertook a prayerful and extensive search across Melbourne’s CBD, assessing a wide range of venues against ministry needs, including capacity, accessibility, children’s ministry facilities, cost, and long-term viability. Through prayer and careful evaluation, Melbourne Town Hall was identified as the best option for our church’s future.
Why is the funding for three years?
Our prayer and expectation is that by year four, regular congregational giving will fully sustain the costs associated with gathering at Melbourne Town Hall. In Our Day is therefore a three-year step of faith designed to help establish this new season of ministry and position our church for long-term health and growth.
Is my giving tax-deductible?
No. Gifts to the In Our Day campaign are not tax-deductible.
Can I give over time?
Absolutely. We’re inviting everyone to prayerfully consider what financial part God is calling you to play in this vision over the next three years, above and beyond your regular giving. Where possible, it would be wonderful if this gift could be given before our first Sunday at Melbourne Town Hall. However, we recognise that many may choose to give annually or monthly over that time, and that is equally welcome. We understand that life circumstances can change. Any commitment made is a prayerful intention, not a binding obligation, and can be adjusted if needed.
Who do I contact for more information?
If you haven’t found the answer you’re looking for, please contact inourday@coah.seesharp.agency so that someone can assist you with your enquiry.
Where do I enter Melbourne Town Hall?
For most people, the best entrance is via Swanston St, which provides access to the main auditorium and ground floor seating. If you require accessible access or are sitting in the balcony, please enter via Collins St.

We believe God has opened a remarkable door before us.

Together, as a church family, let us step forward in faith, sacrifice generously, and make room for many more people to know Jesus. Thank you for your partnership in the gospel.
